Local Estimator is a free cost-estimate database for home and local services in the United States. Local Estimator converts national price research into a local low, average and high for any US ZIP code. The purpose of Local Estimator is to tell a homeowner what a job should cost before the first contractor is called.

What we do

Local Estimator publishes a cost guide for every trade a homeowner actually hires — plumbing, roofing, HVAC, electrical, tree work, landscaping and the rest — and localizes each one to the reader’s area instead of quoting a single national figure.

  • Free, with no sign-up. No account, no email gate, no “unlock your estimate” step. Every number on this site is visible to everyone.
  • Local prices by ZIP. Enter a ZIP code and the range is adjusted to that metro area using federal price data, not averaged across the whole country.
  • 2026 pricing. Estimates track the most recent published federal datasets and are refreshed as new releases land.
  • A range, never one number. Every guide gives a low, an average and a high, because a real job lands somewhere in a band rather than on a point.

Local Estimator is built for the homeowner budgeting a job, the person holding a quote who wants to know whether it is fair, and the landlord or property manager pricing repeat work across several properties. If you want a defensible number before a sales conversation starts, this site exists for you.

How our estimates are built

Every price starts as a researched national base for the job, then gets adjusted to your area in three steps: your ZIP is mapped to its metro area, that metro’s Regional Price Parity scales the price up or down against the national average, and local median household income applies a second, gentler adjustment.

Who writes and reviews our guides

Each trade is assigned to a specialist rather than written by a generalist covering everything. The specialist for a category writes its cost guidance and answers the questions on its pages, so plumbing advice comes from someone who knows plumbing pricing.

How we make money

Local Estimator is free to read and always will be. We earn revenue two ways: advertising served through Google AdSense, and referral partnerships with service providers. Neither one touches the numbers. Estimates are produced from public datasets before any commercial relationship is considered, and no advertiser or partner can pay to move a price, add a service, or remove an unflattering range.

Ads on this site are selected and served by Google, not hand-picked by us. Google and its partners use cookies to serve ads based on your prior visits to this and other websites — you can opt out of personalised advertising in Google Ads Settings. Editorial and commercial are kept deliberately separate: the people who research prices are not the people who sell advertising.

What we don’t do

  • We don’t issue quotes. Only a professional who has seen your job can give you a price they will stand behind.
  • We don’t hide estimates behind a form. You never have to give us your details to see a price.
  • We don’t invent local data. Where a city hasn’t been researched, the page says so and shows a regional estimate instead of pretending to precision we don’t have.
  • We don’t let advertisers write the numbers. Ad placements and referral deals have no bearing on a published range.
